About
Right now, Aotearoa New Zealand is in a state of flux. As a result of decades of successive Governments underfunding the public services that support us and taking a hands off approach to corporate profiteering - people are overstretched and struggling. We currently have a government that is pushing those with the least further into hardship whilst enabling ‘the super wealthy’ and mega corporations to get even further ahead. Amidst all of this, we’re struggling with politically stoked social division and feeling the strain of global political unrest.
We like to think that we’re generally a pretty safe, green, welcoming island near the edge of the world and that the bad things that happen in bigger countries don’t affect us. But they do. When our right wing politicians are joining (or leading) think tanks and learning what works in other countries, we are directly impacted by their rise to power.
And that’s the situation we find ourselves in. We’re not sitting on the edge of the world having a unique experience. We’re having our unique experience ruined by an agenda that serves wealthy, powerful systems.
We’re facing one of the most important elections in our lifetime. We currently have a government that is actively using tactics of the far-right to divide us and maintain its power. By identifying those tactics, we can see them for what they are, keep our calm and stay focussed on the job ahead this year - working together to vote in a Government who will prioritise our collective wellbeing and protect our whenua.
Here, we’ve named but a few of the tactics affecting our society. We’ve also worked with some of the sharpest analysts in Aotearoa to dive deeper into these tactics and the effect they’re having on our society. You can read these essays in The Far-Right Playbook.
Here at ActionStation, we bring people together to act in powerful and coordinated ways to create a fair and flourishing Aotearoa for all. To learn more about the work we’re doing, sign up to receive emails from us.
